About The 8th Annual West Coast Championship Poetry Slam

The "Thrilla at the Miller!" happening at the edge of America -
July 16th & 17th in Big Sur

Monterey, CA, June 28, 2005 - Dancing Poet Productions and Garland Thompson Jr. announce the 8th Annual West Coast Championship Poetry Slam, known this year as the "Thrilla at the Miller!" Saturday & Sunday, July 16th & 17th, 2005 at the Henry Miller Library, Hwy 1 South, Big Sur, California. Tickets are $15.00 online each day, $20.00 at the door. Two-day ticket passes are also available. Online reservations are strongly encouraged due to the popularity of this event. Gates open at 12:00 PM both days. 10 cities are represented: Berkeley, Palo Alto, Oakland, Albuquerque, New Mexico, San Francisco, Ventura, Santa Monica, Modesto, Sacramento and San Jose, some of the hottest performance poets on the West Coast, will compete for $2,000 in cash prizes. Sunday's show will be the top 4 teams going head to head.

The Henry Miller Library www.henrymiller.org, will once again be the site for this event. Just a quarter mile past Nepenthe Restaurant surrounded by Redwoods and home to a collection of Henry Miller's works, and other notable writers, it has proven to be an ideal place for this spoken word festival. Magnus Toren, the library's Curator says, "The West Coast Championship Poetry Slam is the most energetic and entertaining event that happens at the library. Its energy permeates the whole area."

Jerry Quickley, a renowned performance poet and the host of the popular Pacifica Radio show, "Beneath the Surface" on KPFK 90.7 FM, www.kpfk.org , will bring his wit and word once again as MC of this event. Jerry, no stranger to the world of Slam Poetry, is a three-time Los Angeles Grand Slam winner and two-time National Slam finalist.
