Monterey, CA, November 13: The Rubber Chicken Poetry Slam announced today a book release party for
Poet Ric Masten, and his latest work at Morgan’s Coffee & Teas in Monterey on Wednesday, November 23,
2005 at 8PM.
“WORDS & ONE-LINERS - Take 2” A new book by Ric Masten
Troubadour/Speaking Poet Ric Masten has toured the world entertaining and uplifting audiences with his wit and wisdom. In the
tradition of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, Masten speaks in a voice we all know, even now, as he battles terminal prostate cancer.
"WORDS & ONE-LINERS - Take 2" a coffee-table book of Masten's well-known poems and his trademark one-line-drawings
combines to create something more - a continuing compendium of the life-work of this inspiring man. The book has 224 pages with

Since 1966, Ric Masten has traveled across the United States, Canada and England speaking to and performing for hundreds of
conferences, colleges, schools, churches and service clubs. He has been called a "serious humorist," an " after-dinner philosopher," a
"motivational lyricist" - likened to such notables as Will Rogers and Ogden Nash. Ric Masten is more than a poet entertainer.
Watching him perform is like spending quality time with a mirror, being touched and delighted by one's own reflection. As one critic
puts it, "Whatever it is that he does, it never fails to poke fun at our everyday behavior and at the same time provokes an unexpected
reverence for life."
Award winning journalist Bill Moyers had this to say about Ric:

Ric’s performance will be an interactive, and fun, one for the audience. Audience members will be given a handout with a list of the
books chapters, and what they’re about. For example: “Personals” (Family Relations), and “Reading the Road Signs” (Social Action).
Ric will then ask the audience to tell him what they want him to read from the book, and he will. Copies of “WORDS & ONE
LINERS – Take 2” will be available for sale, and to be signed by the author.
The Rubber Chicken Poetry Slam is a regular event brought to you by Garland Thompson Jr. and West Coast Slam, Inc. Hosted by
Garland Thompson Jr. and C7, with music by DJ Mike D. Cover charge is $5, or $2 for Poetry Slammers, and $1 for members of the
Military. This event takes place every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at Morgan’s Coffee & Teas, 498 Washington St. Sign up
for the Slam begins at 7:30PM, and is open to anyone who wants to play!
